Our Limestone Legacy: Lemont Bus Tour

Chicago is famous for many things but you’ll be unlikely to take a walk along the Magnificent Mile without a guide pointing out the architectural wonders of the Wrigley Building, the Water Tower, or Holy Name Cathedral.

On Saturday January 27, join local author and historian, Jason Berry, for a guided bus tour focusing on landmarks around Michigan Avenue and the West Loop neighborhood.

The Chicago Water Tower gained prominence after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The tower was the only public building in the burned zone to survive.

Known as “Athen’s Marble” many of Chicago’s most iconic buildings, got their start in the limestone and dolomite quarries of Lemont, IL — just 20 miles southwest of the big city.

Perfect for architecture enthusiasts and history lovers alike, this tour offers a close-up view of Lemont's native limestone. Space is limited, so reserve your spot now! More information about a meeting spot and itinerary will be provided in the coming weeks.

Developed by William Wrigley, Jr. this building sits on the edge of the Chicago River and across from the Tribune Towers.
