Meet Your New Neighbor: Pilates House Lemont
Pilates House Lemont, a brand-new Pilates studio, is set to open in the heart of Lemont Downtown at the new Marbella of Lemont building. Specializing in reformer Pilates classes, small-group sessions, and personalized fitness experiences, Pilates House aims to bring high-quality wellness options to the local community.
We sat down with Pilates House founder, Taylor Fiala, to discuss the new business.
KG: How did you first get into Pilates?
TF: I’ve always been an athlete—in my young adult life and as a kid. I started running with cross country and then moved into strength training and more competitive running as I got older. As I continued to train, I found yoga and pilates, and I fell in love with the physical and mental challenge of the practice and how my body was forced to slow down, gain control, and build real inner strength. From there, my practice ebbed and flowed over the next few years.
KG: That’s beautiful. I know there are a lot of multi-disciplinary athletes around Lemont. How did you go from Pilates as a practice to your full-time job?
TF: After an on-again/off-again practice, I returned to Pilates fully in 2019—and then the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic happened. I took Zoom classes with the rest of the world and returned to the studio once the pandemic eased.
Pilates had helped me during that pandemic, so I looked into teacher training and upon graduation, started teaching part-time. With more teaching experience and practice, I knew I was ready to turn my love for Pilates into a full-time job. I have always been passionate about supporting people in their fitness and wellness journey. I’m so excited that Pilates House can provide that for students.
KG: What are some of the benefits of Pilates practice?
TF: Pilates is a great workout for every body and we’re here to support a wide range of people. I love that you can see such a wide range of students at every class who may all have a different focus. One of my passions is supporting women prenatal and postnatal so we hope to have a few targeted classes for that. No matter where you are in your practice, we’re hoping to bring pilates classes to Lemont that are perfect for new pilates practitioners and those with an active practice.
KG: That’s my favorite part of Pilates. I’ve learned so much from older women who are taking the class to maintain their core strength, bone density, or functional training. As a Mom who lifts a small child daily, it’s been phenomenal for reducing back pain.
TF: That’s what it’s all about. It can fit into so many areas of your life. Pilates can be great for building core strength, increasing posture, improving your balance, and so much more. It’s a low-impact exercise that can transform your body and overall well-being.
KG: What will classes look like at Pilates House?
TF: We’re intentionally building a small, intimate studio with only five reformers. You can receive the benefit of group pilates class but with personalized instruction. For people who are new to pilates and those who are hoping to deepen their practice, it’s the best of both worlds. I also find that a smaller class helps reduce injury. Being able to receive corrections on form when you’re just starting pilates can make all the difference when hoping to get a good workout.
KG: I love that. When will you be open?
TF: We’ll have a soft opening starting in December. People can purchase a class or class pack and get pricing on our website. We’ll have our official grand opening in January with more class times, more instructors, and more fun.
KG: Where should someone start if they’re brand new?
TF: For the class, they should come to Form & Foundations which was created based on client feedback. It’s still a killer workout but you’ll go slower to learn all of the principles and methods of Pilates. The goal is to build good form and make sure you have an understanding of the Reformer.
KG: And what about a starting package?
TF: We have two new-client specials: $25 for a drop-in class and $100 for our new client 5-class pack. You can take any class with the new client offers. These new client offers won't last long. We’re hoping that people come check us out.
KG: That’s a great deal! Okay, last but not least, what’s your favorite part of Lemont?
TF: I’ve been a fan of Lemont for years. I love Folklore Coffee. The team there knows my order and their founder, Tess, has been so nice! I also just love how charming the town is and how nice the community is—a gem among the Chicago suburbs. People are always holding open the door and starting conversations.
After work, I enjoy leaving the studio to take a short walk along the I&M Canal. When I’m not on the reformer, walking is a great workout for me.
KG: It’s the best community for sure!
