The Five Most Instagrammable Places in Lemont
Look, we’re all in it for the photo, am I right? Lemont Downtown has plenty of instagram-worthy photo opportunities to fill your grid and to keep you looking sharp. Here are our picks for where to get THE shot of our oh-so-charming downtown.
The Stephen Street Bridge
Address: Stephen Street and Front Street, Lemont
You can’t go wrong with this view. Our personal favorite is the view that looks South. Seeing Lemont Downtown from this angle and its steeples are really what it is all about. The colorful mosaics along the bridge are pretty great, too. And if you happen to catch a rainbow? Even better.
Quarry Workers Mural
Next to Digs on Canal, 316 Canal St, Lemont
In 1972, the original Lemont Quarry Workers Mural was painted by Caryl Yasko. At the time, she was one of the first females to paint a mural. Caryl recently returned to restore the iconic Lemont Quarry Workers Mural and it is officially photo-ready! This mural honors the limestone workers from the 19th century, many of these workers were immigrants themselves. And! The limestone was used to build Chicago’s Water Tower on Michigan Avenue and the Holy Name Cathedral. Today, the historic mural is a tourist attraction that is worthy of its own hashtag.
Pedestrian Bridge Steps
Front Street, across from Nex Mex
We love the Pedestrian Bridge and its Steps for another instagram-worthy view. This small pedestrian bridge has it all. Stop by views of Lemont’s signature steeples and the I&M Canal. What more could you ask for?
The Pride of Lemont Mural
Front Street, one block west of Stephens Street, Lemont
Officially known as “The Pride of Lemont” mural, this Lemont Downtown instagram-worthy stop is another mural steeped in history. This mural features Rudy Kling, a speed pilot from the 1930s, who was known nationally and helped put Lemont on the map. Rudy was "The Speed King", but always stayed true to his roots here in Lemont. We love Rudy’s story and think the colors make for the perfect backdrop, especially for a smooch with your sweetie.
Wooden Paddles Bathrooms
212 Stephen St, Lemont
The pizza at Wooden Paddle is delicious and quite instagrammable in its own right, but we are here to talk about bathrooms. Pull up a seat and relax, but be sure to make a pit stop in the bathroom before you leave out to explore Lemont. Believe us, you will find yourself taking a selfie in no time.
